Haragake (腹掛け), 2013

Haragake" is the word for the apron-looking article of clothing adorning this gachimuchi fellow’s naked, muscled torso. Uron explains in the Pixiv description for this illustration that he never knew the term haragake until looking it up after seeing one worn in a taiko performance. Haragake were typically worn by merchants and craftsmen in Edo-period Japan and can still be seen in Japanese festivals today.
