MASSIVE is coming to Tokyo in late November!
Inu Yoshi (犬義) snapped the above shot of me and Anne Ishii at Hama-Rikyu Gardens (浜離宮恩賜庭園) the last time we were in Japan together, just over two years ago. After a tea house interview with the mangaka, we had so much fun shooting his portrait while frolicking in this colorful field. That interview and portrait are some of the earliest elements we collected for Massive: Gay Erotic Manga and the Men Who Make It– our big gay manga anthology which is finally hitting shelves (very) soon!
I’ve been dreaming of Tokyo ever since that trip, and I’m beyond thrilled to be returning next month. We’re planning a MASSIVE party in Shinjuku Ni-chome (details forthcoming!) and an appearance at the Kaigai Manga Festival (海外マンガフェスタ) with our friends from TCAF, too.
On this trip I hope to continue studying the legacies of contemporary queer art in Japan, reunite with our favorite mangaka, make new friends, develop future MASSIVE fashion and print projects, and cruise the bathhouses and hattenba. Won’t you join us? :)
