KUMALICIOUS: CALL-TO-ARTISTS Calling all artists who love...

KUMALICIOUS: CALL-TO-ARTISTS

Calling all artists who love gachimuchi men! An art exhibition called KUMALICIOUS is looking for submissions from artists all over the globe. The group show, organized by E Salvador Hernandez (and guest curated by yours truly), is an homage to the gay manga genre and will be held in June 2016 at the 19th Annual National Queer Arts Festival in San Francisco.

KUMALICIOUS aims to celebrate the allure and beauty of Queer bigger men of color inspired by Gay Japanese Manga made popular by artists such as Jiraiya, Gengoroh Tagame, and Seizoh Ebisubashi. From gachimuchi (“chubby muscle”) to BDSM eroticism, we invite artists to submit their artistic depictions inspired by the Gay Japanese Manga genre and/or its canon artists. This exhibition seeks to provide a rare glance at works depicting underrepresented populations often neglected in mainstream art. KUMALICIOUS will exhibit in partnership with MASSIVE Goods and be presented by the Queer Cultural Center. The exhibition will be on display during the Cartoon Art Museum’s 2016 Queer Comics Expo at SOMArts.

The deadline for digital submissions is March 27th, 2016, so act fast! Check out all the information about the Call to Artists on Hernandez’ website, here
